Requiem for a Deacon

One of the finest men I have ever known.

A convert to the Catholic Faith.

A great devotee of the Roman rite.

A military veteran, a twin, a civil servant, high school teacher, volunteer, father, husband, brother, uncle, grandfather, friend to many.  A speaker of French.

An enthusiast of all things good, true, and beautiful.

A close and personal friend he will be missed by all.

A permanent deacon at the Church of St. Agnes in St. Paul, Minnesota.

He gave a son to the Church as priest.

Please pray for the repose of his soul.

Saints abound.  Be inspired.  Great men are amongst us.

I will always remember the joy of seeing him in Rome at the catacomb of Priscilla on the Via Salaria.  Warm Roman memories.

Bernie, I will love you forever.  Thank you for having taught us the Roman Liturgy according to the mind of the Church.  You were always nice to us and helped make the sacristy a welcoming place.

  5. May he support us all the day long, till the shades lengthen and the evening comes, and the busy world is hushed, and the fever of life is over, and our work is done. Then in His mercy may He give us a safe lodging and a holy rest and peace at the last. RIP Bernie.
